A commercial shown during a television show is the most common type of television ad, these commercials are usually called “spots” and generally last between 30 and 45 seconds. The purpose of a commercial is to get enough information to the consumer to persuade them to do something- buy a product, call a phone number, or visit a location. An infomercial is less common, but just as effective. Infomercials are longer commercials that usually last 30 minutes to an hour in length and go into detail about the product being offered. A sponsorship is another form of television advertising that involves a company sponsoring a particular program. In return, the show will place their product in the show, mention it in the credits or right before or after a commercial break.

Radio ads are generally short, but highly effective with the use of catchy tunes or phrases to help the consumer remember the product. Ads played during the morning and afternoon rush hours tend to have the highest levels of success because this is the time when the majority of the consumers are in their cars listening to the radio. Sponsorships are more often used with radio as most programs are sponsored by a company. The sponsoring company will be mentioned a certain number of times during a program in return for their financial sponsorship.
